Established in fall 2000, the CBD conducts laboratory studies on identifying biological weapons and other infectious diseases. Ongoing research includes a new generation of detector for pathogens and biological toxins in food, water and humans; surveillance systems for timely identification of epidemics; and protective clothing for first responders. The center also provides education and training on homeland security issues.
